“Charitableness Can Be Contagious”

Newton Johnson has continued the tradition of running the family business, Eastern States Insurance Agency with his brother, Oscar since the 80’s. They service thousands of customers with business insurance. His father started the agency in 1972 with the basic philosophy to give back to others when you can. At age 10, Newton sold so many greeting cards door-to-door that his parents gave him a large can and told him to collect for the Home for Little Wanderers. His father said that he collected more money than he made in a week! So, Newton’s passion for charitable giving began…

“We want to help people,” said Newton. He has been a huge supporter of the Middlesex Human Service Agency (MHSA) for over a decade. Newton donates often to the MHSA Nutrition program and his annual contributions are matched by Arbella Insurance for being one of their top agents. His generosity does not stop there. When MHSA was looking for a location to host their monthly Mobile Market (a free open food market for those in need), Newton eagerly volunteered his office building parking lot. “My two sons, Owen, Tyler and I invite everyone to volunteer at the Mobile Market if we need help or not”, says Newton. “So many people in our society are struggling, that’s why we need to participate in supporting our community”, says Newton. “Giving back to others is so uplifting, everyone should do it when they can.”
