Soft vs. Hard Drugs

It is important to understand that the distinction of a “soft” vs. “hard” drug is a misconception.  No drug is necessarily safer than another drug.  The drugs that are considered “soft” drugs, such as tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana, are referred to as “soft” because they are easier to get and more widely used. However, the dangers of these drugs can be just as great as the “harder drugs” such as cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, etc…  The best example of this is tobacco.  More people die from diseases caused by smoking cigarettes each year than from alcohol, drugs, murder, car accidents, AIDS, and fires combined.
