Gateway drugs: Drugs that increase the likelihood of other drug use. The three gateway drugs are Tobacco, Alcohol, and Marijuana. These are the three drugs people tend to try first because they are more accessible than other drugs. Use of gateway drugs does not guarantee the use of other does but does significantly increase the odds of a person trying them. Also, the younger a person begins using gateway drugs, the greater the risk of the person going on to other drugs.
