Moose Lodge Teen Dances

Schedule Update

Grade 7 Dance Scheduled for May 7 has been Changed to May 19

Grade 8 Celebration Scheduled for June 2 has been changed to May 26

From 1993 to 2005, the Moose Lodge Teen Dances were made possible through a collaboration between the Waltham Police Department, Project Outreach, and the Waltham chapter of the Loyal Order of Moose.  In 2005, the Waltham Police Department was replaced by the Waltham Mayor's Office as the third collaborative organization in sponsoring these dances.  Please be aware that due to this change, the School Resource Officers can no longer provide information about the dances.

The events are staffed by people from all three organizations and are designed as a drug and alcohol free event for seventh and eighth grade students in Waltham.  All staff under go Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check.  This is the same background check used for all public school personnel in the state of Massachusetts as well as many other organizations.  In addition one Waltham Police Officers is assigned as a private detail at each dance.

Due to the popularity of these dances, and limited space in the hall, each dance is only open to students of one grade.  The schedule alternates between seventh and eight grade.  Please see below for this years schedule.

Admission is $6.00 per student, soda is $0.50 per cup, chips and other snacks are $0.75 per bag, and water is always free.  All proceeds are used to pay a DJ, custodial fees, and to pay for the final dance of the year, the "Eight Grade Celebration."  This final dance is not a formal dance, but a catered sit down meal is served, the hall is decorated for the occasion, and other special surprises are included.  None of the organizations involved receive any money for their participation and all staff are volunteers.

We sincerely thank the Moose Lodge for their ongoing generosity in donating their function hall for several Friday Nights each year.  Especially since Friday Nights are much sought after rental times.  Without this generosity, these dances would not be possible.

FOR THE MOOSE LODGE TEEN DANCES

SO THAT EVERYONE CAN HAVE A SAFE & FUN TIME

___________________________________________________

We are looking forward to another fun and successful year, and would appreciate your cooperation with the following rules and procedures.  Please note that some rules have changed from last year.

1)

The “Teen Dances” are open to all 7th & 8th grade students who live in Waltham.  The dances alternate between 7th & 8th grade and each dance is open only to students of that grade.

2)

You must present your school I.D. (last year’s I.D., a library card, or a copy of your school schedule are also acceptable) at the door to be allowed into the dance.

3)

Admission into the dances is $6.00.

4)

Students are not to arrive before 6:45 p.m., because we will not have staff to supervise them until that time.

5)

A maximum of 325 students will be allowed into each dance, due to fire codes.  Students who get rides to the dances should ask their ride to wait to make sure they get in.  While we rarely reach full capacity, students who are not able to get into the dance will be given a voucher that guarantees their admission to the next dance for their grade.

6)

Dances begin at 6:45 p.m. and end at 9:45 p.m.  All students who are to be picked up after the dance should arrange to have their ride arrive by 9:45 p.m. at the latest.

7)

There will be no refund for students who leave early or for students who are asked to leave, and no student will be allowed re-admittance.

8)

Backpacks and other bags will not be allowed into the dance.  We will no longer be searching bags and there will be no place to store bags.

9)

If there is no school due to inclement weather, or any other reason, there will be no dance.  In cold weather please be sure to dress appropriately as the line for admission forms outside the building.

10)

The music played at the dance will generally be “Top 40” music.  Requests are taken, but are subject to staff approval.

11)

Laser pointers and Glow Sticks are not allowed for safety reasons.  Violations of this rule will result in the confiscation of the item and the student will be asked to leave the dance.

12)

FIGHTING, SMOKING, OR THE USE OF ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUGS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

13)

Inappropriate dancing behavior will result in the student(s) being removed from the dance.

14)

Please be considerate of the Moose Lodge’s neighbors at all times.

This is the start of the14th year of Moose Lodge Teen Dances.  We hope that with these guidelines, and with the help of the students, parents, and staff the 2005-2006 school year will prove to be just as successful as past years.  Thank you for your cooperation.

8th Grade Celebration

The last dance of each school year is called the "8th grade celebration."  This dance is open only to eighth grade students.

A professionally catered sit down meal is provided followed by a regular dance.  While some students like to think

of this as a "formal" or "semi-formal" dance, students are not required to dress up.
